Clothes strewn across the floor remind me that my mom had nagged me to put them away countless times. My desk is a mess of cheap bouncy balls, a red plastic squirt gun, a Smarties wrapper with a couple of Smarties still in it, other odds and ends, and books yet to be read. My lime green lamp stands on the far left of the desk, covered in dust. Hanging on the knob are two things: a rainbow dog made of crystal beads that I beaded myself, and an intricately quilled paper snowflake, made by my twin sister Allison.

My bedroom is my sanctum. My secret personal headquarters. I store my treasures and riches here. I hoard my junk and odds and ends. I have my red lava lamp that is way cooler than Justin Bieber’s hair. I can’t sleep with it on though. It casts a eerie red glow that looks like it belongs in a 70s’ cheesy horror movie. I have many collections including my knee-high sock collection with neon colors and eccentric patterns. I also have a collection of glass figurines which are mostly elegant animals particularly horses.

My bedroom has the color of an ocean wave that splashed on my walls and
left its color. My beaten down bed has the color of sawdust and creaks like an old
staircase and it is accompanied by plain white bed sheets. On the opposite side is
my closet with dress shirts and khakis that I abandoned like a haunted house. My
dresser has the color of cardboard that glistens and shines like a teacher’s
enthusiasm.

Once,
A beauty,
An honor,
A gift.
Now,
An elegance,
A memory,
A statue.
Your frozen little figure
So fragile,
And delicate.

The United Center in Chicago, Illinois is like Black Friday, but every day! Super fans push through the frantic crowd as they try to get to their front row seats. I smell popcorn, hot dogs and cotton candy coming from the vendors that line the hallways. My mom hands me some Chewy Sprees she brought in her purse. I take a sip of Coke and sit back in the admittedly comfortable maroon seat to wait until the game starts.

Two eyes,
Looking at two different
Things. Not the same,
Yet together,
They are one,
Their bond unbroken.
To severe this unbroken
Union, it is unattainable. Their eyes,
Are one,
Two gazing sets of pearls. Different,
Yet see everything together.
Their visions are one in the same.

Darkness engulfs the sky
As blackened thoughts ease their way into your mind
You don’t admit it but you’re scared
Fear is what enters your mind
Spreads like a virus
Enters you faster than an oiled train
Fear is the mind killer
Every stick is a sword
Every rock is a bullet
